Best CBD coffee beans

Best CBD Coffee Brands

If you're looking for the perfect cup of CBD coffee to give you a balanced energy lift in the morning while benefiting from the infused cannabinoids, we highly recommend a high-mg CBD coffee to get you going. Anything with 20-30mg of CBD per cup. Don’t settle for the weak stuff. Ideally you want +500mg per bag, and we (personally) wouldn’t settle for any less than 250mg.

You can purchase hemp-derived CBD coffee online legally in 47 U.S. states (excluding Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota). It’s very convenient.

You can also get pre-packaged or bottled cold brew coffee as well. Some cold brew coffee products carry around 8-10mg of CBD. Others have roughly 15-25mg of CBD. We recommend the higher-strength. You can also make cold brew coffee at home. A good option if you want to control how much CBD you consume.

Tips for buying the best CBD coffee products

  1. Make sure the coffee is produced by legitimate CBD brands

Coffee quality is important. No-one wants to purchase and consume poor-quality coffee (CBD or otherwise). We vet each brand recommended in our best picks above to make sure they have a transparent manufacturing process, positive reputation, and a strong customer following.

  1. Make sure the coffee is sourced ethically

This may seem counterintuitive, but purchasing hemp coffee from smaller CBD brands specializing in edibles and drinks may be a good avenue to go down. Specialist brands care a lot about how they present themselves to customers. They take pride in being the best brands for that specific product niche. CBD coffee is no exception.

These brands typically develop personal relationships with coffee farms, growers, and vendors. Larger brands may not have the same relationship and put more emphasis on profit than ethical standards.

Look out for brands recognized for their ethical choices. Most will have policies outlined in their mission statements. Also, look out for brands recognized by Fair Trade

  1. Hemp source

Domestically-grown US hemp is often seen as the superior hemp source for all CBD products (CBD coffee included). This is mainly down to the stringent rules and regulations governing hemp farming, cultivation, and production.

There are, however, certain states such as Colorado and Oregon that are much more desirable as hemp sources than others.

  1. Certificate of analysis

Third-party testing is arguably the most important. Third-party testing should be conducted on all CBD products (CBD coffee or otherwise) by accredited, independent laboratories specializing in hemp/cannabis testing and evaluation.

After testing is complete, laboratories will issue a Certificate of Analysis that reveals the following:

  • Cannabinoid Profile
  • Terpene Profile
  • Heavy Metals Testing
  • Pesticides & Herbicides Testing
  • Mycotoxin Testing

Most CBD brands or companies will post COAs for public viewing on their website.

  1. Make sure the CBD strength and potency is enough

One of the first things to look for is the CBD coffee’s strength and potency. You don’t want to purchase a coffee with very little cannabidiol in it — 5-8mg of CBD per cup isn’t strong enough. We recommend searching for a coffee providing at least 20-30mg of CBD per cup. This amount is enough to satisfy your endocannabinoid system (ECS) and provide you with long-lasting CBD effects.

  1. Taste

Tasting CBD coffee before you purchase it is almost impossible unless you go to a brand-owned store and try it yourself there.

High-quality CBD coffee should be rich and flavorful. The bitterness, sweetness, and acidity should be well-balanced and nice on your palette. It should also be easy and smooth to drink. There should be very little to no taste of hemp extract.

Poor-quality CBD coffee tastes, well, cheap. There’s very little richness. The flavor will most likely be weak and imbalanced — perhaps even a little earthy and soil-like. You may even taste the hemp extract too.

  1. Aroma

The aroma of CBD coffee indicates whether it’s high-quality or not. Most brands infuse CBD extract into the coffee beans during the roasting process, resulting in a less potent hemp extract aroma. This is ideally what you want, especially if you’re after a CBD coffee product that smells exactly like regular coffee.

Overall, good-quality CBD coffee smells like regular high-quality, premium coffee. Rich, uplifting, and sensuous.

  1. Decaf or no decaf?

CBD-infused coffee comes in decaf or non-decaf variants. Keep an eye out for this info, particularly if you’re sensitive to caffeine.

What is CBD coffee?

CBD coffee (aka hemp coffee) is exactly what it says on the packaging: coffee beans infused with CBD hemp extract (usually from a CBD oil). It’s a coffee and CBD-lover’s dream — an amazing alternative to regular coffee.

You get the combined benefits of CBD hemp extract and caffeine. You feel awakened but calm and alert but present. Perfect for groggy mornings before work or studying.

Positive effects of drinking CBD coffee

CBD coffee produces some really positive effects on the mind and body — more so than regular coffee. The combination of cannabidiol and caffeine is particularly interesting. You get the stimulation of caffeine alongside the psychoactive but non-intoxicating effects of CBD (and other beneficial cannabinoids).

We highly recommend a high-strength hemp coffee to get you going. When you combine high-CBD content with strong (and flavorsome!) coffee beans, you really begin to see why many choose it over regular coffee. The effects of both substances are enhanced.

These enhanced effects may include:

  • Alertness (without being too overwhelming)
  • Wakefulness (without fluctuations)
  • Longer periods of focus and attentiveness
  • A sustained balance of calm, relaxation, and concentration

CBD coffee uses & benefits

The best uses for CBD coffee include:

  • In the morning — The caffeine will wake you up and the CBD will keep your mind focused on your day’s tasks.
  • Before a social or recreational event — The soothing properties of CBD combined with the awakening, focus-enhancing qualities of caffeine makes this a great combo for social and recreational interaction.
  • After dinner treat — The rich taste of CBD coffee is perfect as an after-dinner treat. Don’t drink too much, though. It can be over-stimulating. Sleep may be diminished.
  • Fantastic taste — Above-all-else, CBD coffee has an amazing taste. High-quality CBD coffee doesn’t have a potent hemp extract flavor, nor does it taste grassy or earthy. Very refreshing.

Potential benefits of CBD coffee include:

  • Concentration/attention issues — Caffeine stimulates your central nervous system, boosting dopamine production in the brain, which helps with focus, concentration, and brain-power.
  • Anti-inflammatory — Coffee and CBD are said to be anti-inflammatories. Useful for digestive issues.
  • Antioxidant — Coffee, specifically, is rich in beneficial antioxidants.
  • Anti-anxiety and depression — Coffee and CBD both have anti-anxiety properties*.

*Be careful when drinking CBD coffee. Caffeine can cause increased anxiety symptoms.

Buying CBD coffee beans vs. adding CBD oil to your coffee

Unfortunately, adding CBD oil to your coffee isn’t quite as effective as purchasing CBD coffee beans. CBD itself isn’t water-soluble. CBD oil doesn’t mix well with water. Effects and benefits may be reduced.

If you want to add CBD to your own coffee blend, we recommend adding specially-made water-soluble CBD drops containing no carrier oil. Many water-soluble CBD drops have nano-emulsified CBD contained in them, making it easier to mix in liquid without the CBD (and other cannabinoids/terpenoids) breaking down.

If you want the full CBD coffee experience, purchase CBD coffee beans from a reputable brand.

Can you purchase cold brew CBD coffee?

Yes. Cold brew CBD coffee is a thing. It comes pre-packaged in tins or bottles — usually in packs of four or six. They’re a great way of consuming CBD and coffee at the same time, especially if you prefer the texture and taste of cold coffee.

You can also make cold brew infused coffee yourself at home. You can make a simple cold brew infused coffee or a CBD iced latte with vanilla. We recommend this if you want more control over how much CBD you’re consuming.

Remember to use water-soluble CBD drops as opposed to regular CBD oils. They mix better.

Where to buy CBD coffee?

You can purchase some of the best CBD coffee beans and drinks online legally in 47 U.S. states (excluding Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota).

With CBD coffee’s popularity currently soaring, regular and specialized coffee shops now offer it in-store. Some bars and restaurants also serve CBD-infused coffee the same way they would a whiskey-infused Irish coffee.
