Fairhaven is taking the fight to tobacco companies by banning the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products from stores with pharmacies with effect from Nov. 1. The Board of Health has passed an ordinance to this effect in order to help reduce the risk to public health posed by various tobacco products. This is indeed an opportunity for smokers to start making the shift to e-cigarettes or other Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products.
The new ordinance was sent to all the pharmacy-containing stores in Fairhaven in order to categorize them as health care institutions, thereby preventing them from participating in the sale of tobacco products. The reason behind this ordinance is to make it difficult for smokers to get cigarettes, thereby encouraging them to explore various options (such as electronic cigarettes) to help them quit the habit.
There is also a concern that cigarette companies are targeting young people in order to get new customers for their products. As a result, the 22 tobacco dealers in this place will also come in for extra supervision. They will be banned from selling blunt raps, tobacco vending machines and commercial roll-your-own machines in an attempt to regulate people’s access to these products which are dangerous to health.
Since smokers will have a tough time quitting their habit they ought to consider using one or the other NRT products. These products provide them with nicotine in a very safe manner since they do not involve the use of tobacco. It is the burning or chewing of tobacco that causes various health problems and it should therefore be avoided at all costs.
E-cigarettes give smokers an easy way to quit their habit since they will be given sufficient nicotine to avoid any serious cravings. The person can gradually wean himself off this habit by using these products judiciously. Electronic cigarettes are equipped with cartridges of liquid nicotine; it is possible to gradually reduce the strength of the nicotine being used.
Fairhaven’s strategy to make it difficult for people to start smoking will certainly help improve public health in that place. As long as people have easy access to NRT products at the same time they will be able to get rid of this habit. This is also a great opportunity for the public to realize that products such as electronic cigarettes can be a great alternative to help them not only quit smoking but to maintain a safe and clean environment.
