Great work. The new study provides yet more reason to embrace ecigs and ditch the analogs. We will also like to know which flavors are risky?

This is an excellent piece of information and I appreciate the work Dr.Farsalinos has done for seeking the truth! Now it remains to see what the regulatory authorities will decide. We can only hope for the best.

The study provides yet more reason that stern regulations from FDA would be unnecessary. There is a drastic difference in the cell toxicity effect of cigarette and ecigs. For ecigs, only 4 out of 20 eliquids reached the threshold for cytotoxicity. The study has also proved that most eliquids are completely harmless to the cells. With the FDA’s proposed regulations due to be announced any time, this study comes in the right context. The risks associated with cigarette smoking do not exist for ecigs smokers therefore I think placing strict regulatory constraints on them would be absurd. Having said that, vapers will welcome healthy regulations since it will ensure good manufacturing practices and quality control standards for the ingredients used in e-cigs. It is hoped that FDA will not hamper what seems to be helping a lot of analog smokers.

That’s a very nice piece of study! There are actually a lot of studies that prove that e-cigs are way better than traditional cigs but none have discussed the issue of toxicity at cellular level. The research concluded that e-cig vapor is much less cytotoxic than tobacco cigarette smoke. The good part is that the problem is not with the core ingredients of ecigs - nicotine, PG and VG. Interestingly, the only possible area for any level of toxicity is the flavoring. But, still better than actually smoking though. But I wonder which flavorings they registered! My opinion is as there are a huge variety of flavors available in the market; it will only be good to test all flavors. Because, unless all flavors are tested, we cannot predict which ones are more or less safe. A further step will be to make a positive list of e-liquids ingredients which will help the blenders to reach safe and approved products. Also, I think flavoring will always be a hot topic of discussion
